Today's lesson is centred on the use of the sus 2 chord
that is the tonic, supertonic plus the dominant or the 5th intervals.
or one , two, five positions.
This is also known by other schools of thought as the quartals. The first invention of a sus 2 chord will give you 2-5-1 which is a quartal chord( 4th intervals). when you invent this chord too , you will get 5-1-2 which is also a sus 4 chord. so in a nutshell, a sus 2 chord is same as a sus 4 chord which is also same as a quartal harmony. Gm folks, yesterday someone posted a question about where the sus 2 chord resolves and i think there are several resolutions but basically it resolves to the elements of its own members. thus the one two and five.
ReplyDeleteThe sus 2 chord will resolve to either the one chord or the five chord
eg. sus2 chord: 1,2,5 will resolve to 1,3,5
eg. sus2 chord: 1,2,5 will also resovle to the five chord which is
7,2,5(or t,r,s)
eg. sus 2 chord can also lead you to the two chord
i.e 1,2,5 resolves to 6,2,4.
